Australian batter Laura Harris produced a stunning display in the Women’s Super Smash 2025–26, racing to a joint-record fastest fifty in women’s T20 cricket during Otago’s clash with Canterbury at Molyneux Park, Alexandra, on Sunday.

Having represented Delhi Capitals in the first two editions of the Women’s Premier League, Harris arrived at the crease during a tricky phase of a 146-run pursuit, with Otago reeling at 46 for two inside six overs. The Australian immediately shifted the momentum, launching an aggressive charge that overwhelmed the Canterbury bowling unit.

Harris reached the landmark in only 15 deliveries, drawing level with the fastest half-century in women’s T20 history, a record earlier achieved by Marie Kelly while playing for Warwickshire in 2022.

Her blistering stay at the crease featured six fours and four sixes, highlighting her effortless power. Harris remained unbeaten on 52 from 17 balls, a decisive contribution that guided Otago to victory and earned her the Player of the Match honour.

The target was chased down without fuss as Otago crossed the line in 14.5 overs, sealing a six-wicket victory with 31 balls remaining. Harris, meanwhile, had just a lone outing in the inaugural 2022 Women’s Premier League, a game in which she did not get an opportunity to bat.

Earlier, she was unable to get going for Sydney Thunder in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), scoring only 69 runs in eight innings at an average of 11.50 and a strike-rate of 197.14. Harris would be delighted with her performance.

Before the record-breaking innings against Canterbury, Harris showed her class for Warwickshire, including a 16-ball half-century against Durham in the Vitality Blast.
