Former Indian cricket team representative Manoj Tiwary deconstructed the reason behind his controversial ousting from the national squad in the height of his ‘career’. Tiwary, who made a century in an ODI match against West Indies in 2011, was, however, omitted from the next ODI match. He did come back eventually, but almost eight months after that particular contest. In the latest of interactions, Tiwary revealed the bitterness of how things panned out at that time and indirectly took a jab at MS Dhoni, the then captain, stating that he will talk about everything at some point in time. He further stated that when a player is removed from the team at the zenith of the player’s career, then it completely ‘crushes’ the player’s confidence.
“See it happened a long time ago, it is a bygone issue, but yes, dukh to hota hi hai. (It was sad) . I would be lying if I said that it was not saddening. What can we do? That is life; but it has to progress. If I am to pen down an autobiography or I am doing a podcast of my own, I will say everything. But it was not simple. There is a change of focus when a player is particularly at his best, when he is loaded with self-belief, and then suddenly, that self-belief is taken away from him,” he said while speaking to Cricket Addictor.
Manoj Tiwary heaped praises on Stars and Stripes pacer Akash Deep for his bowling abilities and stated that once the right-arm pacer performs in away conditions, he will be among the list of great bowlers.
Akash who turned out for England and had a brilliant Test debut earlier this year, Akash retained his place in the ongoing first Test match against Bangladesh at Chennai and he went on to create carnage with his pace and took two wickets in one over on the second day.
“It was evident that Akash Deep possessed the abilities when he made the transition from U23 to the senior team. Akash has worked very hard to convert that talent into performance and made all the sacrifices needed to achieve something of great worth. He is a tireless worker and a mentally strong player.
“Till now, he has done incredibly well within the Indian conditions. Just think about when he plays in away conditions which are like Australia, England or South Africa, he will definitely be among some great bowlers,” Tiwary said to IANS.
