Action intensified after Faiz Hameed’s sentence

Former ISI chief Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed was recently sentenced to 14 years in prison by a Field General Court Martial. Top security officials said that important evidence and testimonies revealed during the trial of General Faiz have emerged as a strong foundation for prosecuting Imran Khan in a military court. According to officials, the material directly links the former prime minister to efforts to destabilize the state and promote political unrest.

Investigation also focused on Imran’s associates and military officers

Sources said that the army is also investigating the role of Imran Khan as well as several of his close associates and some senior military officers. A detailed investigation process is underway and official charges will be framed after its completion. After this, trials are expected to begin in military courts under the Official Secrets Act and related military laws.

Charges related to the violence of May 9, 2023 are also likely to be included.

Imran Khan can be charged with treason, inciting rebellion and conspiring or encouraging attacks on military targets and sensitive assets during the violence of May 9, 2023. These allegations are related to the widespread unrest that broke out across the country after the arrest of Imran Khan. On May 7, 2025, the Supreme Court of Pakistan had given a historic decision saying that civilians involved in the May 9 riots can also be tried in military courts.

Punjab Assembly demanded strict action

Amidst this whole matter, political pressure on Imran Khan is also continuously increasing. Punjab Assembly has already passed a resolution to prosecute him for treason and ban his party PTI.
