The incident happened on Saturday night. After the murder, Jamui police has started investigation. It is said that a party of Lakhan Yadav and some of his friends was going on in the village itself. During this time, there was an altercation between them and then one of the associates shot Lakhan several times. According to the information received, Lakhan Yadav had gone to Baratand tribal Tola late on Saturday evening to participate in the three-day long Christmas (Sohrai) program. Then unknown assailants laid ambush and opened fire on him. It is said that he was shot more than half a dozen times, due to which he died on the spot.

It is noteworthy that Lakhan Yadav has been accused in many Naxalite incidents including Jhajha GRP robbery, burning of JCB of road construction company in Bongi. According to family sources, the deceased had married twice. He has a son and a daughter from his first wife, while he has a son from his second wife. The police are investigating every aspect of the reasons and criminal background of the murder.
