Former New Zealand star reveals a major Strategy laid by Australia for Jasprit Bumrah, check the details inside
The former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull feels that Australia has evolved a ‘clever’ strategy to deal with Jasprit Bumrah during the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Test series. Speaking on JioCinema recently, Doull stated that Bumrah will prove to be the ‘biggest threat’ for Australia in the series and expressed the worry that the hosts seem to be attempting to ‘cook’ him through the workload. The former New Zealand player stated that Australia would wear out Bumrah with the first Test being in the ‘warm’ weather of Perth, followed by the pink ball Test in Adelaide which might make it impossible for India to play him throughout the series.
“In this what Australia have done smartly is scheduling. They understand that although batters are going to be important one way or another, their number one obstacle is Jasprit Bumrah. And so they have gone with the three hardest and fastest surfaces, as well as the Pink-Ball Test. They are trying to cook Bumrah. They are trying to cook him literally in the hot weather of Perth where he will be expected to bowl so many overs. After that, he is going to have to go and bowl many overs again in that second pink-ball Test match in Adelaide. And then comes Brisbane, which is usually a seam-bowler’s paradise, at least for the first Test,” he said.
“So we are going to cook Bumrah in the first two, three Test matches, making sure he bowls a lot of overs. And then they can’t do that, they will have to change, they will have to go to someone else. I think the Australian scheduling has been very smart because very few series start in Perth,” the former New Zealand fast bowler concluded.
Further, Sunil Gavaskar on the 27th Monday, said that if the Indian captain Rohit Sharma is not available for the first Test against Australia in the Affluent series, then Jasprit Bumrah should lead the team for the whole of the tour to Australia.
He opined that Rohit, should be available only as a player in for the series unless he enters the team management.
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is hosted by Australia commencing from the 22nd of November in Perth, with the first match almost certain to elude Rohit due to the impending birth of his second child. He is expected to link up with the squad from the second game of the series.
Rohit, however, is still uncertain about the itinerary.
In the absence of Rohit, Bumrah is likely to co lead the side in Perth.
“It does not matter whether the captain will be there for the first Test match, unless he is injured. If he is fit and does not attend, the vice captain is under considerable pressure.” Gavaskar said on Sports Tak
“For the last little while it has been in the news that Rohit Sharma may not be available for the Australian series’ first two Tests. Hence, in my opinion, there is an urgent need – and, let’s face it, some commonsense too – for the selection committee to appoint Bumrah captain for the whole duration of the Australia tour and convey to Rohit Sharma that he will be part of the tour only as a player. In the first Test match, Rohit Sharma has to be present.”
