Former Pak PM Imran Khan’s sister meets him in jail, alleges ‘mental torture’- The Week

Amid widespread life threat rumours against former prime minister Imran Khan, the Pakistan government allowed his sister, Uzma Khan, to visit the former cricketer at Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail. Scores of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers were present outside the jail.

Hundreds of PTI workers gathered outside Adiala jail and Islamabad High Court on Tuesday, and they protested against alleged restrictions on visitation rights. Reportedly, an unannounced ban was placed on meeting the former prime minister for over a month, who has been imprisoned since August 2023.

The restriction in visitation rights reportedly led to speculations on social media whether he is alive or dead. Reportedly, after the meeting, sources close to Uzma said the former prime minister was “fit and fine”. However, he was being mentally tortured in prison, CNN News 18 reported.  Earlier, Khan’s sisters had warned that if anything happens to Khan, those involved and their families will not be spared by Pakistanis both here and abroad.

After the meeting, Uzma said, “Imran Khan’s health is perfectly fine. However, he said that they are subjecting him to mental torture, and that Asim Munir is responsible for all of this.”

The Punjab government had deployed the entire Rawalpindi police force along Adiala Road to thwart the PTI protest. The government has already imposed Section 144 (ban on gathering of four or more people) in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Personnel from eight police stations in Rawalpindi, along with senior officers, were deployed outside Adiala Jail alone.

“An eight-kilometre stretch has been completely sealed. Schools and colleges are closed. Residents are being required to show their ID card to pass through the area,” an official of Punjab government told PTI.

Earlier, Imran Khan’s son Kasim Khan demanded the government present proof that he (Khan) is alive. “We demand proof of (Imran Khan)’s life,” Khan’s son Kasim Khan had said in a post on X.
