Former PM Imran Khan jailed for 14 years and wife Bushra Bibi for 7 years; Al-Qadir Trust case court gave its verdict…

New Delhi:- The troubles of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi have increased. A special court on Friday convicted both of them in the Al-Qadir Trust case. The court has sentenced Imran Khan to 14 years in prison and his wife Bushra Bibi to 7 years in prison. The decision was pronounced by Judge Nasir Javed Rana in a temporary court in Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail. The court has also imposed financial fine on both of them. Bushra Bibi was arrested amid high security immediately after the verdict.

What is Al-Qadir Trust case?
This matter is related to corruption and illegal sending of money abroad. It is alleged that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi had taken billions of rupees and hundreds of kanals of land from Bahria Town Limited. This amount was used to legalize Rs 50 billion returned from the United Kingdom. In 2023, the National Accountability Bureau had registered a case against Imran and seven others in this matter.

Bushra Bibi arrested from court
According to Dawn report, Bushra Bibi was present in Adiala jail during the decision. He was formally arrested soon after the verdict was announced. Imran Khan was already in jail. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan had told the media that Imran and Bushra should be acquitted on the basis of injustice done in the last two years. But the court rejected it.

The testimony of witnesses changed the decision in the case.

Many witnesses gave statements in the court in this case. The testimony of former minister Pervez Khattak and Imran's principal secretary Azam Khan caught the attention of the court. Azam cited a meeting of 2019, in which several secret documents were presented. The witnesses said that this matter is not just about land transfer. This case was part of the deep web of corruption in Pakistan.

NAB made many serious allegations
NAB has accused Imran Khan. According to NAB, Imran Khan transferred the amount allotted to the states to the account of Bahria Town. Along with Imran, the names of Pakistan's property tycoon Malik Riaz Hussain and his son are also included in this. It is alleged that Imran and his government misused the state treasury. A trust was formed with a fund of £190 million i.e. approximately Rs 71.25 billion. Questions were raised on the validity of this trust.

Political stir in Pakistan intensifies due to decision

This decision created a stir in the politics of Pakistan. Imran Khan's party, PTI, has termed it a conspiracy. At the same time, the ruling party and some opposition parties have welcomed this decision. This case is not just a corruption case but has become a symbol of political polarization in Pakistan. On one hand, Imran's supporters are calling for their leader to be implicated in false cases. The parties involved in the ruling coalition are happy with this decision.
