Former President Kovind will launch ‘Responsible Nations Index’ on January 19, 154 countries will participate in it
New Delhi. Former President Ram Nath Kovind will launch the ‘Responsible Nations Index’ on January 19. It is the first global index of its kind that evaluates countries on how responsibly they exercise power toward their citizens, the global community, and the planet. The officers provided this information.
The ‘Responsible Nations Index’ is a global assessment framework developed by the think tank ‘World Intellectual Foundation’ (WIF) in collaboration with academics from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and methodologically validated by the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Mumbai.
According to Sudhanshu Mittal, Secretary of the World Intellectual Foundation, the ‘Responsible Nations Index’ seeks to spark a new global discussion—one that asks not only how powerful nations are, but also how responsibly they act. “By placing ethics, sustainability and cooperation at the center of global assessments, the ‘Responsible Nations Index’ aims to redefine the meaning of progress and leadership in the 21st century,” he told a news conference.
He said, “The ‘Responsible Nations Index’ represents a paradigm shift in global assessment frameworks. Moving beyond traditional metrics such as GDP-based performance, per capita income, level of trade, military expenditure, geopolitical influence and rankings based on competitiveness, the ‘Responsible Nations Index’ evaluates nations on the basis of their responsibility, ethical conduct and stewardship towards citizens, the planet and the international community.”
The index is based on three key dimensions: internal responsibility, environmental responsibility and external responsibility. Mittal said the ‘Responsible Nations Index’ includes 154 countries and is based on transparent, globally sourced data.
He said that in this era of climate crisis, conflict, inequality and global interdependence, accountability has become the defining criterion of national legitimacy. Mittal said that the ‘Responsible Nation Index’ is an academic and ethical framework that aims to promote reflection, dialogue and policy education.”
