Delhi: Former Prime Minister and Congress leader Manmohan Singh has passed away at Delhi AIIMS at the age of 91. After his health deteriorated, he was admitted to Delhi AIIMS. He was ill for a long time. He was admitted to AIIMS after health problems.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren held a meeting with officials regarding health system, gave instructions to make a health circuit.
Robert Vadra, husband of Congress General Secretary Priyanka Vadra, has informed about the demise of Manmohan Singh on his social media account. While posting, he wrote, “I am deeply saddened to know about the demise of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh ji. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. Thank you for your service to our nation. You will always be remembered for the economic revolution and progressive changes you brought to the country.”
Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister of the country from 2004 to 2014. He is considered to have made an important contribution to the country's economy. He has played a big role in carrying forward the economic reforms of the country. Talking about his personal life, Singh was born on 26 September 1932. His family came to India after partition in 1947. Manmohan Singh studied Economics at Punjab University. After this he did D.Phil from Oxford University. Manmohan Singh's political journey began in the early 1990s, when he became the Finance Minister in the then Prime Minister Narasimha Rao government.
From 1991 to 1996, Dr. Singh was the Finance Minister of India. During this time, he implemented a comprehensive policy of economic reforms, which was appreciated worldwide. These reforms brought India out of the economic crisis and gave a new direction. Dr. Manmohan Singh became a member of Rajya Sabha for the first time in 1991. He represented Assam five times and became a Rajya Sabha member from Rajasthan in 2019. From 1998 to 2004, when the Bharatiya Janata Party was in power, Dr. Singh was the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha. He also contested the Lok Sabha elections from South Delhi in 1999, but was not successful. After the 2004 general elections, he was appointed Prime Minister of India on 22 May. He took oath as Prime Minister for the second time in 2009 and remained in this post till 2014. After this Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister of the country.
