Patiala: Former IG of Punjab Police Amar Singh Chahale has attempted suicide by shooting himself with the revolver of a security guard at his residence in Patiala. He has been admitted to a private hospital in critical condition. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the former police officer had become a victim of cyber fraud worth crores of rupees, due to which he was under immense mental stress.
Police have recovered a 12-page long suicide note from the spot, which is addressed to Punjab DGP Gaurav Kapoor. In this note, Chahal has mentioned that he has been defrauded of a huge cyber fraud of Rs 8.10 crore. Due to this financial loss and mental torture, he is said to be taking this last step. He is in a very critical condition as he was shot in the chest and doctors are making preparations for the operation.
According to SP City Palwinder Singh Cheema, friends of the former IG had informed the police about a note, on the basis of which Sevai was suspected of suicide. Local police and DSP immediately reached his house, where Amar Singh Chahal was found in a bloody condition. The police immediately shifted him to the hospital.
