Former RCB Cricketer Claims Dhaka League is Tougher Than IPL

Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) all-rounder Parvez Rasool has made a surprising assertion, claiming that the Dhaka Premier League in Bangladesh is more challenging than the IPL. Having participated in both tournaments, Rasool shared his reasoning behind this bold statement.

Parvez Rasool, a spin-bowling all-rounder hailing from Jammu and Kashmir, has previously been part of IPL teams such as Sunrisers Hyderabad, Pune Warriors, and Royal Challengers Bangalore. His last IPL appearance was for RCB during the 2016 season.

After going unsold in the IPL Auctions, Rasool chose to play in the Dhaka Premier League, which coincided with the IPL season. Speaking on “Off Script” by WJ, Rasool explained his experiences in the Dhaka League and why he believes it is tougher.

He stated,”I played in the Dhaka League in Bangladesh for five years, and I would say that the Dhaka League is more challenging compared to the IPL,” the former RCB player remarked. “I have played in both the IPL and the Dhaka League, which allows me to draw this comparison. The reason I believe the Dhaka League is tougher is because, in the IPL, once you are selected and given a contract, you are guaranteed certain benefits. Whether you perform well or not, you still receive your contract.”

He elaborated further, saying, “In the IPL, your participation largely depends on the team’s requirements. If you perform poorly in one or two matches, you might get dropped from the playing XI, but you still remain part of the squad. In contrast, the scenario in the Dhaka League is completely different.
There’s immense pressure because players are often offered contracts for only two matches.”

Rasool mentioned that big names were sent home from the Dhaka League due to poor performances
The player stated, “If you perform well in those two matches, it secures your place and provides more chances to play. But if you fail to deliver, you’re quickly sent home with a return ticket after the third match. I won’t mention any specific names, but there have been prominent players who faced this reality—they played only 2-3 matches before being sent back

Rasool’s Brief International Cricket Career

The former RCB all-rounder hasn’t featured in international cricket since 2017. Rasool represented India in just one ODI and one T20I. His ODI debut came on June 15, 2014, during an away series against Bangladesh in Mirpur. Three years later, he earned his T20I cap during the opening match of the series against England at home.

Despite showing promise by taking two wickets on his ODI debut and one on his T20I debut, Rasool never got another opportunity to play for India in either format. His last professional cricket match was on December 23, 2023, when he represented Badureliya Sports Club in Sri Lanka.
