Commenting on the statue of New Lady Justice, former Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi said that it has many hands and weapons.

New Delhi : Former Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi on Friday expressed deep concern over attempts by some forces to destabilize the country by weaponizing caste and religion. He said that to face this situation, the new statue of 'Goddess of Justice' installed in the Supreme Court should have many hands and those hands should also have weapons.

Lekhi's comment came in the context of the six-foot tall statue recently installed in the Supreme Court, which has scales in one hand and the Constitution in the other, but does not have a sword. Dressed in traditional white attire, the statue's blindfold has been removed, but Lekhi believes this does not fully reflect the concept of justice in the Indian perspective.

Speaking during Chanakya Raksha Samvad 2024, Lekhi said, “There is a controversy going on regarding the new statue. Some people consider it a unilateral decision.” He suggested that instead of replacing the statue, it could have been made more powerful by blindfolding it and giving it a sword.

Lekhi jokingly said that we could have also given him mobile phones and internet, showing that modern technology tools can also help in meeting today's security challenges. Additionally, Lekhi criticized Canada's tacit support for Khalistani extremists. He said that using the soil of one country for terrorist activities in another country is called 'state sponsored terrorism'.

Talking on internal security challenges, Lekhi said caste, religion, color or gender can be weaponized, which is a big headache for law enforcement agencies. He also said that the war is not only going on at the borders, but also within the social system, with the aim of 'final control'. Thus, Meenakshi Lekhi made it clear through her thoughts that in today's time, there is a need for new thinking and approach in the context of justice, security and challenges facing the society.
