In a post on Twitter, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati expressed concern that the issue, instead of being resolved immediately, has turned into a big controversy due to the statements of ministers and others. He described this incident as unfortunate and regrettable. Referring to the program in which appointment letters were distributed to doctors, he said the matter should have been handled sensitively. Especially considering its impact on the safety and dignity of women. The incident took place at a public program of distribution of appointment letters to doctors by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, where a Muslim female doctor was asked to remove her hijab. Instead of being resolved, this incident has turned into a controversy because of the statements of ministers and others, and this is very regrettable and unfortunate. The BSP chief said the Chief Minister should look at the incident in the right context, express regret and take steps to resolve the growing controversy. Noting that similar incidents have occurred elsewhere, they need to be handled with caution and respect. He further said that although, prima facie, this issue involving safety and dignity of women should have been resolved by now with the direct intervention of the Chief Minister.
