Free Aadhaar update deadline extended: What is allowed, what is not

New Delhi: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) extended the deadline for free online Aadhaar updates to June 14, 2025. Initially, the last date to update Aadhaar details was set to expire on December 14, 2024.

“#UIDAl extends free online document upload facility till 14th June 2025; to benefit millions of Aadhaar Number Holders. This free service is available only on the #myAadhaar portal. UIDAl has been encouraging people to keep documents updated in their #Aadhaar,” UIDAI statied on its X handle.

The free Aadhaar update facility is available only on Aadhaar portal – myAadhaar. It can be used to modify details like name, date of birth, address and mobile number. However, if an individual wishes to update fingerprints, iris scans or photographs, the person is required to visit authorised Aadhaar centres.

Notably, individuals whose biometrics have changed significantly due to age or surgery related issues, or other conditions, are mandated to update their biometric. According to the rules, minors turning 15 are also required to update their biometrics.

How to update free Online Aadhaar

  • Visit myAadhaar website –
  • The individuals updating their Aadhaar are required to log in using their Aadhaar number and the OTP sent to the registered mobile number.
  • Next step is to update the required details
  • The applicant has to select the relevant document and upload a scanned copy in JPEG, PNG, or PDF format. The website mentions that the maximum file size should be 2 MB.
  • After submitting the documents click on ‘Update Aadhaar Online’
  • Note the 14-digit Update Request Number (URN) for tracking.
  • After approval, the updated Aadhaar card can be downloaded directly from the website.
