During Peace’s tenure, he won several big cases for the federal government. Former US representative George Santos pleaded guilty in August over misusing campaign funds. In October, Mexico’s top public security official Genaro Garcia Luna was sentenced to more than 38 years in prison for secretly providing protection to “El Chapo” and the Sinaloa drug cartel. Peace had not only won cases but his office also successfully extracted penalties in several cases. In March, European oil trader Gunvor Group Ltd. gave its consent to pay more than $660 million to resolve US and Swiss charges that it paid bribes to Ecuadorian government officials.
In November, the Peace office named Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani and two other company directors for allegedly defrauding US investors in a bribery scheme to win government contracts. On the other hand, Adani rejects the allegations terming it as ‘baseless’, stating that he is looking for legal options to ‘reconfirm the company’s absolute commitment to world-class regulatory compliance.’
