‘Friend’ India has nothing to worry about, Iran assures New Delhi about Hormuz in energy crisis
India has no reason to worry about the war-torn Strait of Hormuz, Iran has once again made it clear amid the energy crisis. “Only Iran and Oman will decide the future of Hormuz,” the Indian Embassy in India wrote on their X-Handle on Thursday. Our Indian friends are in safe hands. There is no reason to worry.’
Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important sea passages in the world. About 20 to 22 million barrels of crude oil are exported daily through this narrow strait between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. This is about one-fifth of the total crude oil shipped by sea worldwide. Along with oil, a significant amount of natural gas—especially liquefied natural gas—reaches global markets using this route. But Iran has blocked Hormuz to increase global pressure due to the war. However, ships from countries that have friendly relations with Tehran are allowed to sail. Along with China, Russia, Pakistan, India is also included in the list of friendly countries. In this situation, Tehran once again made it clear that there is no reason to fear Indian ships in Hormuz.
So far, eight Indian-flagged ships have safely crossed the Hormuz and entered the country. Among them, two ships named BW ELM and BW TYR entered India with 94 thousand tons of gas on March 31 and April 1. According to sources, Indian ships are crossing the Strait of Hormuz in a slightly detour than necessary. In order for the Iranian administration to identify New Delhi’s ships, it has to take a detour. On the other hand, it is reported that 20 Indian ships are still stuck in the area adjacent to Hormuz. It is also heard that the vessel, which is empty, is being loaded with LPG. If the ship arrives in India with the help of Iran, the nationwide gas crisis will be solved, we hope.
