What changes occurred in trade and investment between Russia and Bahrain?
Both the countries have strengthened their hold on the economic front. St. Bahrain Chamber signed seven important Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with Russian entities during the Petersburg International Economic Forum. Apart from this, work has started on many sectors to promote investment and trade.
What happened in political relations and at the international level?
There was a lot of turmoil between the two countries at the diplomatic level also. Several rounds of talks took place between His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and President Vladimir Putin. Russian Ambassador Dr. Alexey Skosyrev appreciated the strong relations with Bahrain. At the same time, Bahrain has now become a dialogue partner country in Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
However, some differences were also seen at the international level. In April 2026, Russia vetoed a Bahrain-led UN Security Council draft resolution related to the Strait of Hormuz. Russia called this proposal wrong and dangerous and together with China presented a new draft.

Cooperation has increased not only in trade but also in culture and law making process. Bahrain’s Shura Council and Russia’s Federation Council signed an agreement to enhance parliamentary cooperation, with plans to share experiences and hold joint conferences.
Programs like “Russian Seasons in Bahrain” were organized to strengthen cultural ties. Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa stressed the importance of cultural cooperation. Along with this, Bahraini Culture Days were also celebrated in Moscow.
