‘From energy to security’… Modi’s master plan on crisis amid war
Prime Minister Modi gave a detailed statement in the Lok Sabha on Monday (23 March 2026) on the crisis arising in West Asia due to the ongoing conflict between America, Israel and Iran. He clearly said that India opposes any kind of attacks and any kind of obstruction in the Strait of Hormuz is not acceptable.
What did the PM say on the priority of the government?
The Prime Minister said that India’s clear policy is that tension in the region should end soon and all parties should move towards a peaceful solution. He described attacks on civilians, energy plants and critical infrastructure as completely unacceptable. Speaking on the priority of the government, he said that India is sensitive as well as fully alert and is ready to deal with every situation.
He said that major supplies of essential commodities like crude oil, gas and fertilizers go through the Strait of Hormuz. After the war, the movement of ships through this route has become challenging, but the government has tried to ensure that there is not much impact on the availability of petrol, diesel and gas in the country.
Prime Minister Modi admitted that this conflict has posed many challenges to India. These challenges are at all three levels: economic, security and humanitarian. West Asia is not only a major source of energy for India, but is also an important route for global trade. In such a situation, it is natural for the instability there to impact India.
PM spoke on the safety of Indian citizens
Regarding the security of Indian citizens, he said that the government is fully active. Indian missions abroad are continuously issuing advisories and people are being helped through 24-hour control room and helpline. Since the beginning of the war, more than 3.75 lakh Indians have been brought back safely.
Referring to the government’s preparations on the energy security front, the Prime Minister said that strategic petroleum reserves have been strengthened in the past years. At present the country has a reserve of lakhs of metric tons and work is going on to increase it further. Also, India has diversified its import sources where earlier oil came from 27 countries, now this number has increased to 41.
He also said that promoting ethanol blending has reduced dependence on oil imports. Due to this, crores of barrels of oil are being saved every year. The government is also cautious regarding agriculture and power sectors. Adequate food grain reserves, availability of fertilizers and coal stock in power plants have been maintained to meet the increasing demand in summer.
The country needs to remain united
In the end the Prime Minister said that the country needs to remain united during this global crisis. He told that he has talked to the leaders of many countries and appealed to ensure the safety of Indians. India is continuously striving towards restoring peace and reducing tension through diplomacy.
