Anand Sagar’s legacy
Anand Ramanand Sagar Chopra, son of iconic filmmaker Ramanand Sagar, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, at the age of 84 in Mumbai. He had battled Parkinson’s disease for 10-12 years, as shared by family members. A co-producer on the legendary 1987-1988 TV series Ramayan, Anand carried forward his father’s legacy at Sagar Arts, producing shows like the 2008 Ramayan remake and Alif There (1993).
His funeral took place the same day at 4:30 PM at Hindu Smashan Bhumi (Pavan Hans) in Mumbai.
Family’s heartfelt statement
The Sagar family issued a moving announcement: “It is with deep sorrow and profound grief that the Sagar family announces the sad demise of their beloved father, Shri Anand Ramanand Sagar Chopra, who passed away peacefully today, 13th February 2026. Son of legendary Ramanand Sagar, creator of the original 1987 TV series Ramayan, Anand ji was part of the second generation managing Sagar Arts. A man of warmth, dignity, and values, Shri Anand Ramanand Sagar Chopra touched many lives with his kindness, wisdom, and gentle spirit. He will be fondly remembered by family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.”
Anand is survived by his wife, Nisha Sagar Chopra and three children. Nisha told PTI, “The whole family was by his side. He went away peacefully. He was a beautiful soul — soft-spoken and never lost his temper with anyone. It is a great loss for everyone.”

On February 16, 2026, a prayer meet was held at Vile Parle, Mumbai, drawing Bollywood’s big names to honor Anand. Attendees included Jaya Bachchan, Hema Malini, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Poonam Dhillon, Poonam Sinha, Raza Murad, and comedian Kiku Sharda.
