From Stay to Screen: Kerala High Court Greenlights ‘The Kerala Story 2’, Says Vipul Shah

After a temporary legal hurdle, a Division Bench of the Kerala High Court overturned an earlier interim stay on the release of The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyondclearing the way for the film to hit theatres. The earlier order by a Single Judge had paused the release amid challenges to the film’s certification.

Producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah Breaks His Silence

Producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah addressed the media following the High Court’s decision. He said the bench found no reason to question the Central Board of Film Certification’s certification process for the film. An expanded eight-member panel, including social workers and subject experts, had reviewed the certification. Shah welcomed the judgment and expressed relief after the court lifted the stay.

Details of the Court’s Review

Shah explained that an eight-member committee examined the film, instead of the usual five members. The panel included two social workers from Kerala to ensure balanced representation. A Delhi-based professor specialising in socio-political subjects also reviewed the film before authorities granted certification. According to Shah, these expert reviews supported the CBFC’s decision.

Previous Stay and Appeal

The Division Bench overturned Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas’s order that had stayed the film’s release for 15 days over a challenge to its U/A certificate. After the producers filed an appeal, the larger bench convened and lifted the stay, allowing public screenings to proceed.

Film Details and Expected Release

The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond is directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh and stars Ulka Gupta, Aditi Bhatia, and Aishwarya Ojha. The makers originally scheduled the film for release on February 27, 2026, and the court’s decision now allows them to move forward as planned.
