From Sweden to Mumbai, Christmas and Diwali feel the same for Elli Avram

Mumbai:Today, Christmas is celebrated all over the world, but for actress Elli Avram, this festival is different this year. Ellie, who usually celebrates Christmas with her family in Sweden, is in Mumbai this time. Despite this, for them the warmth, emotions and traditions of Christmas remain exactly the same as they have been since childhood.

Ellie believes that Christmas is a very special part of her life. Growing up in Sweden, this festival reminds him of Diwali celebrated in India. For them, the soul of both the festivals is the same – home decoration, lights, belongingness and peaceful time spent with family.

Will celebrate Christmas in Mumbai, will connect with family on Facetime

This year Ellie is celebrating Christmas in Mumbai only. She says,"I’ll be waking up with my two sweet boys (and their cats) Charles and Edward, and I’ve got Christmas presents for them too, which I’ll try to get them to open. They are already sleeping under my Christmas tree, what a cozy and lovely atmosphere. And today I will celebrate Christmas with my parents on FaceTime."

For them, this festival is not just a date, but a moment associated with emotions.

Why does Christmas remind us of Diwali?

Ellie tells that after coming to India, when she saw Diwali closely, she always got a glimpse of Christmas. She says,"When I came to India and saw the way Diwali was celebrated here, it always reminded me of Christmas. The way you light up your house, decorate it and make it warm, homey and cozy is what Christmas is to me."According to him, decorating the house and creating a positive atmosphere is the soul of both the festivals.

Christmas tree and childhood pranks

Decorating the Christmas tree is Ellie’s favorite tradition. On this occasion, he also remembers the mischiefs of his childhood.
She says laughingly,"I always wanted to know what gift I was getting… Once my parents caught me and asked why I had spoiled the surprise. I replied to them, ‘But one can forget’, and since then they have always used this against me."

Food, Movies and Family Traditions

For Ellie and her family, Christmas means good food, movies and time spent together. Christmas movies in the afternoon and a special dinner in the evening are part of their tradition. She says,"My mother acted in the film ‘Fanny and Alexander’ (1982). It’s a very happy ending to Christmas."

Taste of Sweden, feel of Christmas in India

Talking about food, Ellie still remembers her mother’s special gravy.
She says,"This year I’m in India, so I won’t get to eat that gravy. But we’re bringing ginger biscuits, I’ll make hot wine and drink hot chocolate too."

For Ellie, Christmas may change the country, but its feeling always remains alive in the heart.
