Fruit, vegetable exports reach $2.6B in 5 months

The sector posted a trade surplus of $1.37 billion during the period, according to customs data.

China, the U.S. and South Korea remained the largest export markets, while shipments to markets such as the Netherlands, Germany and Malaysia saw strong growth, helping reduce dependence on a handful of key export destinations.

Durian exports amounted to nearly $222 million in the first quarter alone, up 127.8% year-on-year. A rise in approved growing-area codes was considered a key factor behind the surge.

Exports of dragon fruit, bananas, mangoes and coconuts remained stable. Coconut, in particular, has been identified as a strategic export product in the coming period.

Major markets worldwide are expected to boost imports this year, driven by rising demand for healthy food and the recovery of the global economy. The global fresh fruit and vegetable market, in particular, is forecast to reach $934.6 billion in 2026, according to the Agency of Foreign Trade.

In the coming months, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports are expected to continue expanding, fueled by abundant supply as key products enter their peak harvest season and notable improvements in quality and traceability.
