Globally the fuel market in recent days has been affected by negotiations between the U.S. and Iran, as well as rising U.S. inflation driven by sharp fluctuations in energy prices, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance.

Each barrel of RON95 gasoline fell 9.2% to $127, while diesel dropped 5.5% to $146.70. Mazut also fell sharply, down 9.2% to US$655.20 per ton.

From June 1, E10 RON95 gasoline will be sold widely, replacing mineral-based RON 95. E5 RON92 gasoline will continue to be sold until the end of 2030.

The parallel sale of mineral-based gasoline and biofuel in recent years has been intended to help the market gradually adapt and support businesses in improving their distribution infrastructure, according to Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan.

However, citing international experience, he said maintaining too many fuel types for an extended period would create problems such as higher logistics, storage and distribution costs.

It would also create difficulties for retailers and reduce the effectiveness of the transition to green energy, he added.

Tan also said that roadmap for switching to E10 gasoline is not abrupt as it has been carefully assessed by regulators. He affirmed that the transition plan does not impose restrictions or limit consumers’ right to choose.

Based on assessments of vehicle compatibility with E10 gasoline, most cars and motorbikes in Vietnam can use this fuel in line with manufacturers’ recommendations, he said.
