New Delhi: It was an enthralling opening day at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Sunday as all franchises spent big money on marquee Indian names and top overseas players. Punjab Kings (PBKS) went all out to secure the services of Team India star Shreyas Iyer for Rs 26.75 crore. Iyer was released by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) despite leading them to a memorable title triumph in IPL 2024 earlier this year. PBKS beat Delhi Capitals in the race to sign Iyer making the most of their big purse at the auction.

PBKS also splurged big to rope in Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh and spinner Yuzvendra Chahal for Rs 18 crore each. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) broke the bank to buy back star all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer for Rs 23.75 crore, making him the 3rd most expensive pick on Day 1 of the auction.
