Funeral for Hong Kong martial arts actor Norman Chui and wife organized by his five children

According to St Headline, on the evening of Sept. 28, Chui’s children announced the funeral details for their father and his third wife, Meng Yuxuan. Their remains are being transported from Beijing to Hong Kong, where the service will be held at Universal Funeral.

Chui passed away on Sept. 1 at the age of 74 due to esophageal cancer, and Yuxuan, 30 years his junior and a dancer from mainland China, tragically died from a heart attack just days later on Sept. 5. Their two children, aged 19 and 13, are still minors, so the older children from Chui’s previous marriages will take on most of the responsibilities for the funeral.

According to HK01Hong Kong director Ricky Lau and friends previously organized a memorial service for Chui and Yuxuan on September 21 at the Buddha Hall of Dazhi Zen Temple in Zhejiang Province, China, with Chui’s son Edward, from his relationship with Shirley Yim, managing the condolence donations.

A close friend revealed that in his later years, Chui was actively working, traveling frequently between Zhejiang and Beijing for film projects. He never had regular health checkups and only discovered his illness in its advanced stages, as reported by 8days.

Chui gained fame in the 1970s and 1980s for portraying martial arts heroes in films, later shifting to villain roles in the 1990s, including a notable appearance in “King of Beggars” alongside Stephen Chow.

During this period, Chui focused his career on the mainland Chinese market, rarely returning to Hong Kong or participating in local productions.

Chui first married in 1975 and had a son, but the couple divorced in 1979. He remarried the following year, but that marriage ended after an affair. In 2004, Chui married Yuxuan, a mainland Chinese dancer who was 30 years his junior.

The late actor also has two children with ex-girlfriend Shirley, Edward and Erica Chui. Chui’s affair with her became public in 1983, and they split in 1988, with Shirley raising their children alone.
