Fury Road’ shaped its wild action scenes
Director Daniel Chong has shared insights into the high-octane action sequences in his upcoming animated adventure ‘HOPPERS’, revealing that the film’s intense set pieces drew direct inspiration from ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’.
“Capturing the adrenaline and the crazy, high-stakes action, to me, was the fun of this movie, putting these cute, little adorable animals in the most horrific peril,” Chong told reporters. The film balances humor, heart, and extreme action, giving audiences a thrill ride while keeping the charming animal characters front and center.
Chong explained that the team studied the frenetic energy and kinetic camera work of ‘Fury Road’, adapting it to a family-friendly animated world. “We wanted the chaos, the tension, and the excitement, but in a way that’s visually fun and safe for kids to enjoy,” he added.
The result is a series of sequences that combine destruction, chase scenes, and over-the-top stunts, all while maintaining the endearing qualities of the main characters. “It was a creative challenge to keep the stakes high without ever losing sight of the characters’ cuteness,” Chong said.

Chong’s approach showcases a growing trend in animation: borrowing cinematic techniques from live-action blockbusters to elevate storytelling while maintaining accessibility for younger audiences.
