Gandhis leave for Kerala; Priyanka to file nomination on Wednesday- The Week
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi is all set for her electoral debut as she will file her nomination for the Lok Sabha bypolls in Wayanad, a seat vacated by her brother and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday.
Priyanka, accompanied by her mother and former party chief Sonia Gandhi, reached Mysuru on Tuesday on their way to Wayanad. Rahul and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, along with prominent state leaders, are expected to be present when Priyanka files the nomination papers.
Wayanad goes to polls on November 13 and the votes will be counted on November 23.
Exuding confidence over Priyanka’s candidature, Rahul said she will emerge as a passionate champion of Wayanad’s needs and a powerful voice in Parliament.
“The people of Wayanad hold a special place in my heart, and I can’t imagine a better representative for them than my sister, Priyanka Gandhi,” he wrote on X.
Rahul and Priyanka will lead a roadshow from Kalpetta New Bus Stand at 11 am on Wedesday before filing her nomination before the district collector at 12.30 pm.
On Monday, Priyanka met Kharge in Delhi to discuss the campaign strategies.
The bypolls in Wayanad were necessitated after Rahul chose to retain Rae Bareli parliamentary constituency and vacate the Kerala seat. In June itself, soon after the results were announced, the Congress had announced that Rahul would vacate Wayanad and Priyanka will make her electoral debut from the seat.
If elected, she will be the third MP from the Gandhi family in the current parliament. Rahul Gandhi is the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha while Sonia Gandhi is a member of Rajya Sabha.
