In Gorakhpur, the police has exposed a big gang that cheats people in the name of marriage. The members of this gang used to extort lakhs of rupees from the groom and his family by getting them married to fake brides and then posing as police. Police have arrested seven accused including a woman in this case, while the fake bride and her fake sister are still absconding.
Actually, the matter came to light when this gang made Brajmohan Meena, a resident of Kota, Rajasthan, its victim. The accused called him to Gorakhpur on the pretext of marriage and got him married to a girl in a fake marriage. Immediately after the marriage, the gang members reached there posing as police and started threatening the groom and his family to send them to jail on charges of fake marriage. Taking advantage of the fear, they collected Rs 3.11 lakh from the victim.
In this case, after the complaint of the victim’s family, Chiluatal police station started action. Gyanendra Nath Prasad (SP North) while disclosing the entire matter in Police Lines said that the police has arrested seven members of the gang.
The gang leader used to call himself a police inspector
According to the police, the leader of this gang is history-sheeter Ankur Singh, who used to call himself a police inspector. His associates include Dhirendra Yadav alias Tuntun, Ravi Chaudhary, Munna Jaiswal, Navami Sharma, Shaila Devi and Raju Sharma. These people, posing as police officers and constables, used to scare the groom and his family and extort money from them. Police have recovered about Rs 1 lakh 65 thousand in cash from the accused. Apart from this, forged police identity cards and two Aadhar cards have also been found, which were used during the fraud.
Used to target people interested in marriage
Investigation revealed that the gang used to target people seeking marriage from far-flung states. They were lured for marriage and called to Gorakhpur, where fake marriages were conducted. After this, the gang members would come posing as police and take the groom and his family hostage and extort huge amount of money from them. According to the police, the fake bride and her fake sister are still absconding. Continuous raids are being conducted in search of him. Police say that this gang had been cheating people in the name of marriage like this for a long time. After the arrest of seven accused, the police is now investigating this entire network also.
