Ganga water in Varanasi is not fit for drinking, NGT asked DM to put up a board regarding this.

NGT has strongly reprimanded the encroachment on Asi and Varuna rivers in Varanasi. The District Magistrate was asked whether he could drink the water of Ganga? The court even said that a board should be put up on the banks of the Ganga that the water is not fit for drinking and bathing. This was told by the lawyer present during the cross-examination.

NGT made very harsh remarks today

NGT today made very harsh remarks regarding encroachment on Asi and Varuna, tributaries of Ganga in Varanasi. While hearing the case of encroachment on Asi and Varuna in the National Green Tribunal, the District Officer asked Varanasi that why don't you put up a board saying that Ganga water is not fit for bathing and drinking. Actually, a hearing was being held in the court regarding the encroachment proceedings in the green belt of Varuna and Asi rivers.

Hearing was held regarding encroachment and pollution

Petitioner's lawyer Saurabh Tiwari said that a hearing was held on Varuna and Asi regarding encroachment and pollution. District Officer Varanasi was also present in the online hearing. During this hearing, NGT judge Arun Kumar Tyagi and A Senthil were hearing as subject expert judge. District officers were responding regarding action against encroachment of Varuna and Asi rivers.
