The tenure of former South African cricketer Kirsten will start from April 15, 2028. He will be seen in the role of head coach of the Sri Lankan team in all three formats. His main focus will be on strengthening Sri Lanka’s performance in the ODI World Cup to be held in 2027.

After Kirsten’s appointment, Sri Lanka Cricket said in its statement,

‘Kirsten’s primary responsibilities will include the guidance and preparation of the Sri Lanka national men’s team for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, to be held in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe. The appointment of the new head coach is a part of Sri Lanka Cricket’s efforts to improve the structure of its ‘National High Performance Centre’. His contract with Sri Lanka Cricket will be for two years, which will end on April 14, 2028.

India has won the World Cup during Kirsten’s tenure.

Let us tell you that Kirsten has a lot of experience in coaching. Under his coaching, Team India became the 2011 World Champion. After this, he took the responsibility of coaching his team i.e. South Africa for the next two years. Kirsten was recently seen as an advisor to the Namibian team in the T20 World Cup. At the same time, he has also played the role of head coach of Pakistan team. However, Kirsten’s tenure with the Pakistan team was marred by controversies.
