Gas Connection Rules 2026: Has PNG gas arrived in your area? Get connection within 48 hours, otherwise cylinder supply will stop!
- Is PNG Gas in your area?
- Get connected within 48 hours
- Otherwise the supply of cylinders will stop!
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has implemented the ‘Natural Gas and Petroleum Products Distribution Order, 2026’. The direct effect of this order will be that residents of urban areas will no longer LPG cylinder And PNG (PNG – Piped Natural Gas) cannot be chosen at will. If the natural gas pipeline reaches your doorstep, you may have to stop using your LPG cylinder.
Notice giving 3 months
According to the new government rules, if you continue to use LPG cylinders despite the availability of PNG facility in your area, the gas company will send you a formal notice. If you do not apply for PNG connection within three months of receiving this notice, your LPG supply will be permanently disconnected. The same rule will also apply to Housing Societies (RWAs), which are obstructing pipeline laying work.

Why did the government take this drastic decision?
The main reason behind this decision is the ongoing conflict in the Middle East (especially between Iran and Israel). Due to disruptions in the waterway ‘Strait of Hormuz’, LPG imports into India have been adversely affected. The government’s aim is to retain the LPG stocks currently available in urban areas and divert them to rural areas where pipelines are not technically feasible at present. The main objective behind this is to strengthen energy security and reduce dependence on foreign imports. According to Oil Secretary Neeraj Mittal, the move has been taken to “turn this crisis into an opportunity”.

Getting gas connection now super fast
This new order has greatly speeded up the process for both consumers and gas companies. Once the application is submitted, the gas company is required to provide connection to the customer within 48 hours. Housing societies (RWAs) are required to give permission for laying pipelines only within three working days; They cannot reject such requests without any valid and substantial reason. If there is a delay in granting the ‘Right of Way’ required for laying the pipeline, then the permission will be deemed to have been granted automatically.
What if there are technical difficulties?
The government has also made special provisions for those whose houses are located in places where pipeline laying is not technically possible. In such cases, the gas company will issue a ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC – No Objection Certificate) to the concerned person. After receipt of NOC (No-Cancellation Certificate), LPG supply to the customer will continue uninterrupted as before. However, if the necessary technology becomes available in the future, this NOC will be revoked and it will become mandatory to obtain a PNG connection.
