Now ‘gas’ Ki hit! Prices are going to increase in restaurants, Zomato-Swiggy will also see a big impact
LPG Cylinder Crisis: The impact of the war that started with Israel and America’s attack on Iran now seems to be reaching the kitchens of the common people. Due to increasing tension in the Middle East, the global supply of LPG is being affected. India imports a large part of its requirement and due to disruption in the supply route, pressure in the market has increased. Its direct impact is visible on the hotel and restaurant industry, where a large amount of gas is used daily.
In many cities, small and big restaurant owners say that the availability of gas is decreasing and what is available is more expensive than before. Because of this, work has started slowing down in many kitchens. Many hotels and restaurants have increased the prices of food. At the same time, hotels are seen closed at many places.
Menu cuts and rising prices
Due to rising gas prices, many restaurants have started changing their menus. At some places, dishes that consume more gas, such as fried foods or dishes that take longer to cook, have been reduced. Some restaurants are making these dishes only at special times. Apart from this, the price of commercial LPG cylinder has also increased rapidly. The cylinder which was available for around Rs 1750 a few days ago, is now available for around Rs 1950 or even more. Due to this, the costs of restaurant owners have suddenly increased.
Food delivery service also affected
This situation is likely to impact online food delivery as well. Most restaurants have gas stock for only two-three days. If there is an interruption in supply, many kitchens may have to be temporarily closed. In such a situation, many restaurants or dishes may appear ‘not available’ on food delivery apps. Experts say that if the gas problem continues for a few more days, the business of delivery companies may also be affected, because it will be difficult to fulfill orders if the kitchen is closed.

Industry organizations say that some hotels and restaurants have already been closed in many cities and if the situation does not improve soon, this number may increase rapidly. In such a situation, in the coming days, people may have to cook more home-cooked food instead of eating outside.
