Gas cylinder explodes while extinguishing fire in house, 13 people including policemen injured

New Delhi. An LPG (cooking gas) cylinder exploded while trying to douse a house fire in northwest Delhi’s Majlis Park, injuring 13 people, including firefighters and policemen. The officers provided this information. Officials said six policemen and firefighters who were trying to extinguish the fire that broke out in the house at around 9 am were injured due to the explosion in the LPG cylinder.

According to officials, several local people present in and around the building were also injured due to the fire. Teams of police and fire brigade personnel immediately reached the spot and started efforts to extinguish the fire. “An LPG cylinder exploded during the operation, injuring several personnel who were trying to extinguish the fire and evacuate the residents,” a senior police officer said.

He said that three policemen of Adarsh ​​Nagar police station and three officers of Wazirpur fire office were injured in this incident. According to the official, all the injured were first taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital. He said that considering the seriousness of the injuries, he was referred to Safdarjung Hospital and his condition is being monitored.

According to the official, the fire was brought under control after the tireless efforts of the fire department. He said that the authorities are assessing the damage caused during this incident. Officials said investigation is underway to find out the cause of the fire. Police said authorities are investigating whether the fire was caused by a ‘short circuit’ in the parking area or LPG leakage was responsible for it.

An eyewitness said three firefighters, three policemen and seven other people were injured. “The fire broke out in the parking area of ​​the building around 9 a.m. and quickly spread to the upper floors, causing panic among the residents and people nearby,” an eyewitness said. The fire broke out when the battery of a scooter was being charged in the parking area.

He told that the battery of the scooter was on charge and suddenly it became extremely hot. He told that within a few minutes the flames engulfed the entire parking lot and the fire spread very quickly and within no time the entire building was filled with smoke.
