Gautam Adani Visits Historic Taranga Jain Temple on Akshaya Tritiya; Pledges Support for Heritage and Ecology

MEHSANA: Marking the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adaniaccompanied by his wife Dr. Priti Adani, visited the 12th-century Shri Ajitnath Bhagwan Shwetamber Jain Derasar in the Taranga hills on Sunday to offer prayers and discuss the preservation of the historic site.

The couple arrived at the Dabhoda helipad in Mehsana’s Kheralu taluka at approximately 7:45 am, where they were received by representatives of the Jain community before proceeding to the hill shrine. The visit coincided with a day considered holy across both Jain and Hindu traditions, drawing a large gathering of devotees to the site.

Focus on Heritage and Pilgrim Welfare

The Taranga temple, dedicated to Lord Ajitnath—the second Tirthankara of Jainism—was commissioned by the Solanki monarch King Kumarpal. It remains one of the most significant examples of 12th-century temple architecture in Gujarat.

During the visit, Mr. Adani performed rituals within the sanctum sanctorum and spent time interacting with the temple administration. A key highlight of the visit was a meeting with temple trustee Sachin Ashokbhai Shah. Improving facilities and amenities for the thousands of pilgrims who visit the shrine annually. Ensuring that any modernization of access points maintains the architectural and spiritual integrity of the ancient structure. The couple also visited the temple’s canteen to observe the services provided to visiting devotees.

Beyond infrastructure, the Adani Group has committed to the environmental upliftment of the region. The Group is currently supporting extensive afforestation initiatives across the Taranga hills. These efforts aim to restore the local ecosystem and preserve the natural beauty surrounding the sacred pilgrimage site.

The visit to Taranga continues a recent series of spiritual engagements for the Adani family. Earlier this month, on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, the family offered prayers at the newly consecrated Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. “Akshaya Tritiya signifies prosperity and new beginnings. In the Jain tradition, it commemorates the first offering of alms to Tirthankara Rishabhanatha, underscoring the values of charity and service.”

The Chairman’s visit highlights a dual focus on honoring India’s cultural lineage while contributing to the sustainable development of its heritage landmarks.
