India secured a historic one-two finish in the men’s T47 100 meters at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, with Dilip Mahadu Gavit taking gold and Mohammed Basil Morssinganakth earning silver on Day 7 of the event.
Gavit delivered a powerful finish over the final 30 meters to set a Commonwealth Games record time of 10.71 seconds, decisively claiming the gold medal. Basil followed closely with a time of 10.83 seconds, narrowly ahead of England’s Kevin Santos, who took bronze with 10.85 seconds, according to ESPN.
This dominant performance allowed India to complete a historic 1-2 on the podium in the para athletics sprint event, adding two more medals to the country’s overall haul at Glasgow.
The medals represented India’s second gold and third overall on the day, following long jumper Murali Sreeshankar’s silver medal earlier in the men’s long jump event.
Sreeshankar, who also won silver at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, recorded a best jump of 8.09 metres, finishing behind Jamaica’s Tajay Gayle, who took gold with 8.15 metres. Scotland’s Stephen Mackenzie earned bronze with 8.08 metres, while another Indian athlete, Lokesh, made his Commonwealth Games debut by finishing fifth with 7.97 metres.
Sreeshankar’s silver makes him the first Indian men’s long jumper to win two Commonwealth Games medals.
With the gold and silver medals secured by Gavit and Basil respectively and Sreeshankar’s silver, India added three medals on Day 7, bringing the country’s total to 15 medals – including three gold, nine silver, and three bronze – at the Games.
India’s gold medals so far have been won by Mirabai Chanu in weightlifting, Sharmila Dhankar in the women’s F57 shot put, and Gavit in the men’s T47 100m.
