Get out in 24 hours! Qatar gave stern order to Iranian officials, declared persona non grata

Qatar has declared Iran’s military and security officials as ‘persona non grata’, under which they have been ordered to leave the country within 24 hours. This step has been taken in response to the recent attacks on Qatar by Iran, which have further increased tensions in the Gulf region. Iran’s attacks targeted regional energy facilities, posing a serious threat to global energy security.

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry, while handing over an official note to the Iranian Embassy, clearly said that Iran’s repeated aggression and violation of sovereignty will not be tolerated. This decision is a sign of a strong response from the Gulf countries amid Iran’s increasing conflict with America and Israel, where an important meeting of Muslim countries is also going to be held in Riyadh.

Qatar orders Iranian officials to leave the country

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry wrote, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry has handed over an official note to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran located in the country. It says that Qatar declares the military attache and security attache of the embassy as well as the entire staff of these two offices as ‘persona non grata’. Qatar has demanded that all these officials leave the country within a maximum of 24 hours.

What does persona non grata mean?

From the point of view of diplomacy, when a country refuses to allow a foreign official or officials to stay in its country or orders him to leave the country, then he is declared persona non grata.

Displeased with Iran’s attacks, called it a violation of sovereignty

The ministry said the measure was taken in response to Iran’s repeated targeting of Qatar and open aggression against the State of Qatar, which violates Qatar’s sovereignty and security. This is a gross violation of the principles of international law, UN Security Council Resolution 2817 and the principles of good neighbourhood.

Warning of tough steps ahead

Qatar has made it clear that if Iran continues this kind of attitude, then more stringent measures will be taken in the future. Also said, Qatar reserves its right to take all necessary steps to protect its sovereignty and security in accordance with the provisions of international law.

Iran threatens Gulf countries to attack oil-gas facilities

After the attack on its ‘gas fields’, Iran has threatened to attack oil and gas infrastructure in Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. However, this is not the first time that Iran has issued a threat. Iran has specifically threatened to target Saudi Arabia’s Samaref refinery and its Jubail petrochemical complex. It has also threatened to attack the Al Hassan gas field in the United Arab Emirates and petrochemical plants and a refinery in Qatar.
