Get rid of Trump’s eyes! As before, India is buying oil from Russia, a clear announcement by Moscow
India is not reducing the purchase of Russian oil under the pressure of Donald Trump. Speaking to reporters, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said there was nothing new in the US president’s words. But nothing has happened to make us believe that India has changed its stance on buying oil from Russia. It should be noted that the news spread on Wednesday morning that India bought 40.5 percent less oil from Russia in January this year compared to last January.
In the announcement of the trade agreement earlier this month, Trump claimed that India and America are going to sign a trade agreement on the condition of not buying Russian oil and buying 45 lakh crores of US goods in five years. Besides, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio claimed that India will stop buying oil from Russia. Since then, the question has been raised several times, will India really stop importing oil from Russia under the pressure of the trade agreement? New Delhi did not say yes or no to this question.
In this situation, a report of all India media came out on Wednesday. It is claimed that in January 2025, India imported only $2.86 billion worth of goods from Russia, where it was imported from Russia in January 2025. It is clear from these figures that this deterioration is due to the cessation of buying Russian oil. In fact, 80 percent of India’s total imports from Russia are Russian oil. As a result, if the purchase is reduced, the overall picture will change accordingly.
But on Wednesday afternoon, Russia made it clear that there has been no change in India’s position on buying Russian oil. In Zakharova’s words, “Both countries benefit from India importing Russian oil, the status quo is maintained in the world oil market. There is no reason to believe that India has stopped buying Russian oil. There is nothing new in the words of the US President or the Secretary of State because they are trying to take away the rights of an independent country.” So is India continuing to buy Russian oil despite American pressure? The answer is elusive.
