Getting a new electricity connection in Delhi has become easy, now the connection will be available through self-declaration, DERC changed the rules.
Now getting a new electricity connection in the capital Delhi has become much easier and faster than before. Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has issued a public notice announcing several important changes to simplify the connection process. These changes are expected to directly benefit common consumers. Under the new rules, the requirement of site inspection for electricity connection has now been abolished. Earlier, site inspections were conducted by distribution companies after application, which delayed the process.
With the removal of this condition, the process of releasing the connection will now be faster than before. Along with this, DERC has also removed the requirement of advance payment. Earlier, consumers had to deposit the fee at the time of application, but now this compulsion will not be there, which will make it easier for people to apply.
Now the requirement of pre-connection site inspection has been completely abolished. Till now, before releasing the electricity connection, officials of the distribution companies used to go to the spot and inspect the site. This process often took time and in many cases consumers faced delays. But after the implementation of the new rules, this step has been removed, which will make the process of releasing the connection much faster and simpler.
No hassle of advance payment
By changing the rules, DERC has removed the requirement of advance payment at the time of application. Earlier, consumers had to deposit some fees while applying for a new connection, which caused inconvenience to many people. But now under the new rules no payment will have to be made while applying. According to DERC, consumers will now be able to deposit all connection charges with their first electricity bill. This will not only make the process easier but will also reduce the initial financial pressure on people.
Self declaration facility
Now the facility of self-declaration has also been given to the consumers, which will make it easier to get the connection. Under the new rules, the consumer will now have to give a declaration that the internal wiring of his house or premises has been checked by a licensed electrical contractor.
no hidden charges
The Commission has made it clear that all connection related charges will be taken only as per the prescribed standards. Now electricity distribution companies (DISCOMs) will not be able to charge any additional or hidden charges. The objective of this decision is to protect consumers from overcharging and ensure transparency in the entire process.
Redressal of complaints has now become easier and more effective for electricity consumers. DERC has strengthened the grievance redressal system and laid down a clear procedure. Now if any consumer faces any problem related to getting a new connection or electricity service, he can lodge his complaint in a phased manner.
