Geyser in bathroom is becoming deadly! Know which mistakes become the cause of accidents

Geyser has become a necessity for every household during the winter season. This appliance, which provides easy access to hot water for bathing and daily activities, is certainly convenient, but misuse can turn its usefulness into danger. In recent years, many such accidents have come to light in which geysers installed in bathrooms have even taken the lives of people. Experts have issued a serious warning regarding these incidents and explained that due to which mistakes this simple device can prove fatal.

The biggest reason is wrong installation. Many times the geyser is installed inside the bathroom, in a humid area, where the electrical contact is directly connected to the water. In this situation the risk of electric shock increases significantly. Experts say that the wiring of the geyser should always be waterproof and of high quality, and it is mandatory to have a circuit breaker and earthing.

The second major reason is overheating. Many users keep the geyser on for a long time, which causes the pressure inside to increase. If the safety valve does not work properly then the geyser may burst. Such incidents have many times resulted in serious injury or death. Experts advise to keep the geyser on only as per requirement and turn it off immediately as soon as the water gets hot.

Gas geysers can prove to be extremely dangerous especially if there is no ventilation in the bathroom. The operation of gas geysers releases poisonous gases like carbon monoxide, which quickly fill a closed bathroom. This gas is odorless and upon entering the body, it can cause conditions like dizziness, difficulty in breathing and unconsciousness. Every year many incidents occur due to such gas in which lives are lost due to lack of timely help.

Another common cause is the use of local or cheap electric fittings. Substandard switches, fake wires and weak plugs heat up and melt, increasing the risk of short circuit. Experts say that for heavily loaded appliances like geysers, only ISI-marked fittings should always be used.

Moreover, people often ignore servicing. Dirt or scale accumulated in the heating coils reduces the efficiency of the geyser and increases the pressure, causing it to slowly build up to a dangerous situation. It is necessary to get the geyser serviced once every six months or a year.

To avoid all these risks, experts have suggested some important measures—keep the geyser switch outside the bathroom, ensure proper ventilation in case of gas geysers, set the temperature at a safe level and keep regular inspections done.

It is clear that geyser is a source of convenience, but in case of mistakes it can become a big danger. A little care and proper installation can ensure life safety.
