Suddenly a wheel of Lichchavi Express caught fire in Ghaziabad, created panic
There was chaos in Lichchavi Express (14006) going from Anand Vihar to Bihar when a wheel of the second AC coach suddenly caught fire. The incident took place near Harnandi river bridge in Ghaziabad, where a major accident was averted due to the alertness of two patrolling policemen.
Timely information received due to vigilance of constables
RPF constables Rajveer and Kamal were on routine patrol when they noticed flames rising from the wheel of a coach. The fire appeared near the wheel of the third ac second coach, which was adjacent to the guard coach. Both the soldiers immediately informed the guard and informed the control room.
As soon as the information was received, the train was stopped on the outer track of Ghaziabad station at 6:35 pm. RPF Inspector Chetan Prakash and his team reached the spot with fire fighting equipment.
Panic among passengers, but no casualties
As soon as the speed of the train slowed down and smoke started appearing, some passengers got scared. Due to fear, some people even tried to get down from the coach. However, it is a matter of relief that no passenger was injured. Passengers were safely evacuated from the affected coach and the situation was brought under control.
After the fire extinguishing process was completed, the train was brought to platform number one or two, where the technical team started a detailed investigation.
Technical fault became the cause of fire
Preliminary investigation revealed that due to broken binding of the coach and stuck brake shoe, excessive friction was created in the wheel, due to which the fire broke out. Railway’s technical team fixed the stuck brake shoe and made necessary repairs.
Isolation certificate was issued after confirming all the safety standards. After this the train was dispatched safely at 7:07 pm.
There was no impact on operations
According to railway officials, this incident did not affect the operation of any other train. A potentially major accident was averted by controlling the fire in time. This incident once again proves that safety of railway passengers can be ensured with vigilance and prompt action.
