‘Gifts’ were distributed before the elections, cooker-money snatched from the public when they did not get votes; Is this the real politics of Congress?
Telangana Municipal Elections 2026: During election season, candidates adopt various methods to get votes. Many times they distribute gifts like cash, liquor or household items to woo people, but a case has come to light in Telangana which has surprised everyone. Here a Congress candidate demanded back the gifts given to him by the people after not getting votes. This incident raises questions on election ethics.
Anger erupted over not getting votes
The Congress candidate from the 10th ward of Ashwarapeta municipality in Bhadradri Kothagudem district of Telangana had distributed items like money and pressure cookers to the people during the election campaign. His aim was to get votes, but in the voting held on 11 February 2026, he did not get the support as expected. After the results came, in despair he contacted those who did not vote for him. He demanded the return of the distributed money and cooker.
The people affected by this behavior were very angry. He said, "We had not even asked for any gift. You gave it of your own free will and now you are insulting me?" This incident created panic in the area. People are considering this as small thinking and insulting behavior of the candidate.
Giving gifts is against the law
The Election Commission of India has clear rules that no candidate or party can give money, gifts or any expensive item to the voters during the elections. Doing so is a violation of the model code of conduct. If someone is caught, a fine may be imposed against him. In many cases the nomination can also be cancelled.
These rules have been made so that the elections remain fair and the poor and voters do not fall prey to money or greed, but many candidates break these rules and distribute gifts. This incident in Telangana clearly shows that such acts not only break the law but also insult the public.
Telangana municipal elections
Let us tell you that municipal elections were held across the state in Telangana on 11 February 2026. Of these, votes were cast for 7 municipal corporations and 116 municipalities. According to the Election Commission, out of a total of more than 52 lakh voters, 73.01 percent voted. This shows good partnership. Voting was peaceful and everything went smoothly except a few minor incidents.
