Girlfriend culture banned in IPL! BCCI’s strict stance on players, new rules will be implemented soon

IPL 2026: During the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, BCCI has become angry with some players roaming in public with their girlfriends and staying together in the team hotel-bus. The board is now preparing to strictly ban this ‘girlfriend culture’.

Discussion of girlfriends with players

Many players including Hardik Pandya, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ishan Kishan and Arshdeep Singh have recently been seen traveling in the team bus with their roomed partners and staying in the team hotel. BCCI fears that if this trend continues then big problems may arise in future.

Main concerns of BCCI

According to media reports, the board is worried about the partners of some players being ‘influencers’. Some have also promoted betting apps in the past. Apart from this, fights have also come to light between players and their partners and in some cases even police complaints have been filed, due to which the image of the league and the board has been tarnished.

A top official said, “If this is not stopped now, there could be big problems in the future. We are seeing that the team simply waits for the girlfriends and they are staying in the hotel along with the players.”

Where did the rule of ‘official girlfriend’ come from?

The BCCI official said that some officials of the Anti Corruption Unit (ACU) were allowing girlfriends to stay by calling the players as “official partners”. The official clearly said, “There is no such provision in the BCCI rules. We only allow wives and family members with special conditions.”

risk of information leakage

Many partners are social media influencers. The board fears that sensitive team information may be inadvertently leaked, which could prove dangerous for the reputation of cricket.

new strict rules

BCCI is going to discuss this issue in its next meeting and issue strict guidelines. These rules will not only be applicable to IPL, but will also be implemented on the international tour of the Indian national team.

Uniform central rules will apply to all franchisees. ACU will also be given new travel and stay protocols. BCCI believes that maintaining discipline is important for both the image of the league and the performance of the players.
