Girls will have to undergo pregnancy test after returning from vacation! This government hostel issued a decree

Maharashtra: A big controversy has arisen in a government tribal girls’ hostel in Pune district of Maharashtra. Here the students are being told that it is necessary to get a pregnancy test done after returning from holidays. They are allowed to enter the hostel only if they have a negative report in the test, otherwise they are not allowed inside the hostel. This rule is raising questions on the privacy of girl students. Let us know what has happened so far in this case?

What is the whole matter?

Girl students in tribal hostels in Pune’s Junnar area and other places are saying that after returning after Diwali or any kind of holidays, they have to undergo urine pregnancy test. Girl students have to purchase this test themselves and enter the hostel only if it is negative. The girl students are calling this rule humiliating.

Government’s response

The Tribal Development Department has clearly said that there is no such government rule. No GR or circular has been issued making this test mandatory. This was also discussed in the Assembly and the government called it wrong.

Maharashtra State Women Commission has taken cognizance of the matter. Investigation has started and strict action has been warned against the culprits. Activists are calling it a violation of girls’ privacy and rights.

Hostel administration maintained silence in front of media

After the matter escalated, when the media team reached the hostel, the administration refused to talk in front of the camera. Local organizations are raising this issue and demanding change. This incident shows that it is important to take care of the dignity of girls even in government institutions. Hopefully the truth will emerge soon through investigation.
