Actress Pratibha Ranta, who turned heads with her powerful performances in Aamir Khan’s Laapata Ladies and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi, became an overnight sensation among fans. While some have dubbed her the national crush, others adore her acting skills. Recently, in an interview, Pratibha opened up about women’s safety, issues faced by women, and menstruation. She emphasised the importance of men understanding what women go through during those five days. The actress shared a personal experience where one of her male friends expressed curiosity about what a sanitary pad looks like.

She explained, “Television has definitely given me recognition in my hometown. Everyone keeps saying my show is on TV. It’s quite challenging for someone from Himachal to establish themselves in Mumbai. I come from a family where women have the freedom to make their own decisions. My grandmother was a teacher when Indian women weren’t working. She used to teach students to play during that era. My grandmother taught Hindi and had a passion for dance. My mother is a housewife, and we have an apple business at home.”

When asked where she first learned about menstruation, the actress responded that her school helped her understand the situation better. She said, “It was an all-girls school. My first boyfriend was from a boys’ school, and I was his first female friend. I was coming home from dance class when I ran into him.”

She further added, “I was a bit bothered because I was on my period, and I told him, ‘Listen! I’m on my period today. I can’t walk much.’ As soon as he heard about periods, he panicked a little. It was the first time someone had openly talked to him about it. He started biologically explaining how long it lasts and how it happens, speaking in textbook language. I laughed a bit and said, ‘Yeah, I know.’”

In the same interview, Pratibha continued that after this, their relationship became more comfortable. She revealed that her boyfriend told her that his mom hides these things from him and asked if she could show him a sanitary pad. The actress said, “I told him I had an extra one and would show him. I took it out of my bag and handed it to him, saying there was no problem with it.” Concluding her thoughts, Pratibha emphasised that experience gives knowledge a proper form and enhances understanding.
