Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has surprised everyone by announcing his retirement. The veteran spinner took this decision at the age of 38. His decision amid the Border Gavaskar Trophy is being considered a big blow for Team India.
What did Ashwin say in the press conference?
Ravichandran Ashwin said in the press conference, “Today was my last day as an international cricketer. As an international cricketer, I will no longer be associated with the game. But I will definitely be associated with sports in some way or the other.” Ashwin wrote on his ex-post, “After much thought, I have decided to retire from Test cricket. My journey representing India so far has been incredible, filled with unforgettable moments. Thank you to my teammates, coaches, BCCI and most importantly the fans for their unwavering support. New challenges await me, but Test cricket will always hold a special place in my heart.
Games will be seen in IPL!
Ravichandran Ashwin, who played 287 international matches, will not be seen in international cricket in future. However, he will still continue to play in the IPL. Chennai Super Kings i.e. CSK bought him for Rs 9.75 crore. If he performs well in 2025, the Chennai team can retain him again.
Ashwin's international career
Off-spinner Ashwin has played a total of 287 matches for Team India. Out of which he has taken a total of 537 wickets in 106 test matches. He got a chance to bowl in 200 innings. He has been successful in taking five wickets 37 times, while 8 times he has been successful in taking 10 or more wickets in a match. His best bowling performance in the match was 7 wickets for 59 runs and 13 wickets for 140 runs. Along with this, he has taken 156 wickets in 116 ODI matches. Ashwin has never taken five wickets in ODI cricket. Even in T20 international cricket, he could not take five wickets even once. He took 72 wickets in 65 matches.
