See list: Players who scored centuries in all three formats, Glenn Phillips also became a part of it

Delhi: The wait ended when New Zealand batsman Glenn Phillips scored a century (100) in the first innings of the Oval Test between England and New Zealand. This is his 19th Test and he had scored runs in the last 18 Tests, had also scored Fifty (5) but not a century. This century is also special because now Glenn Phillips has become the third New Zealand batsman to have a century in international cricket in all three formats of the game (other two: Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill). After the start of T20, this is one of the special records in batting which has started being talked about a lot. Many great batsmen also do not have the record of century in all three formats.

Glenn Phillips dedicated this special century of his, looking towards the sky, to his deceased father Roland, and coincidentally he scored this century a day before the first anniversary of his death. From a cricket point of view, this century of Glenn Phillips was very special for New Zealand and the biggest contribution to his first innings score of 391. He scored 33 runs on his first 23 balls and 16 runs on the next 51 balls and was on 49* on the first day. On the second day, he scored exactly 100 runs by adding 51 runs on 61 balls.

If we analyze Glenn Phillips’ batting, a big surprise comes to the fore that Phillips has batted in the top 6 in only one of his 19 Test matches and that too while making his debut in Sydney in 2020. Therefore, the opportunities to play long innings were reduced but if we look at the importance, the runs scored by him at numbers 7 and 8 were always useful for the New Zealand team. Even in the low-scoring first Test of the same series played at Lord’s, he was the highest run-scorer. In this series, till this innings, he was the only player to score points for both the teams. The interesting thing is that due to Gujarat Titans not using him much during IPL 2026, he started playing in this series without proper batting practice for about 6 weeks.

The record of scoring centuries in international cricket, in all 3 formats of cricket, was first set by Chris Gayle of West Indies in 2007.
