Goa government bans firecrackers and electronic fireworks in pubs, night clubs and restaurants
Following the recent horrific fire incident at a nightclub in Goa, the state government has taken strict security measures and banned firecrackers and fire-related activities in all hotels, nightclubs, pubs and restaurants. This order was issued on Wednesday.
According to this, the use of traditional firecrackers, electronic fireworks, fire games or any kind of inflammable displays will now be prohibited in the entire state. According to government officials, this step has been taken specifically to prevent recurrence of such accidents and ensure public safety during the busy tourist season. The purpose of the order is not only to prevent incidents like fire, but also to strengthen safety standards at tourist places.
Chief Minister’s meeting and security measures
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant chaired a high-level meeting regarding tourism safety after this incident. All concerned departments and stakeholders of the tourism sector were included in the meeting. The objective of the meeting was to tighten the security standards of tourist places in the state and create a strong mechanism to prevent such incidents in future.
Talking to the media, the Chief Minister said that the government will not allow incidents like the fire in Birch and Arpora to be repeated. He directed all departments to adopt strict preventive measures and further strengthen security coordination. Along with this, he said that beaches, waterfalls and other crowded tourist places should be continuously monitored. Only those establishments will be allowed to operate which follow the rules and are licensed.
The Chief Minister stressed on strict adherence to fire safety rules, especially in nightclubs, restaurants and other entertainment venues. Establishments serving liquor will be allowed to operate only within the prescribed time limit and their licenses will be canceled in case of violation of the rules. Apart from this, all tourist establishments and nightlife venues were instructed to appoint staff only after police verification.
It will be mandatory for visitors to follow the instructions given by lifeguards in safe coastal areas. The Chief Minister also said that Goa is the only state to deploy trained lifeguards along the entire coast, ensuring the safety of visitors throughout the year. He assured that these coordinated measures will help Goa ensure a safe and orderly tourism season. Describing the safety of tourists as the top priority of the government, he said that this focus will be given especially during the festive months.

A fire broke out around midnight at the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Arpora, North Goa, killing 25 people. The incident has intensified scrutiny of security systems at entertainment venues across the state.
In this case, the two main owners of the nightclub, Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, have fled to Phuket, Thailand. Interpol has issued a Blue Corner Notice against him, due to which the search for him has started at the international level. Besides, a lookout circular has also been issued against nightclub co-owner and British citizen Surinder Kumar Khosla. The state government and law enforcement agencies are making efforts to bring all those responsible to justice.
