Gold Crosses Rs 1.40 Lakh Per 10 Grams, Silver Tops Rs 2.5 Lakh Per Kg: Precious Metals Are On Fire; Here’s Why
Gold and silver prices today: Gold and silver prices surged to new all-time highs on Friday, December 26, on the Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX), buoyed by escalating geopolitical tensions, a softer US dollar and growing expectations of interest rate cuts by the US Federal Reserve.
Gold Prices Scale Record Levels
Gold futures for February delivery jumped as much as ₹1,188, or 0.86%, to a lifetime high of ₹1,39,285 per 10 grams on the MCX. Contracts for the April expiry rose even higher, gaining up to ₹1,366, or 0.97%, to touch a fresh record of ₹1,42,836 per 10 grams.
Trading activity picked up after commodity markets reopened following the Christmas holiday on Thursday.
Silver continued its sharp upward march, hitting record highs for the fifth consecutive session. March delivery silver futures climbed as much as ₹8,951, or 4%, to an all-time high of ₹2,32,741 per kilogram. Contracts for the May expiry surged up to ₹9,105, or 4%, reaching a record ₹2,36,757 per kilogram.
