Good news: Air China will start direct flights between Beijing and Delhi, Chinese Embassy spokesperson announced

New Delhi, 21 March. Chinese Embassy spokesperson Yu Jing made an important announcement on Saturday saying that Air China is going to restart direct flights between Beijing and Delhi.

Yu Jing wrote in his ex-post that this is not just travel but also a big step to increase cooperation between people on trade, tourism, trust and forums like SCO, BRICS. With this restoration, citizens of both the countries will get direct connectivity which will save time and expense. People will be able to easily travel between the two capitals without transit, marking the normalization of relations after Covid.

Due to Covid-19 pandemic and border tension, all direct flights between India and China were closed for 6 years.

It is noteworthy that in the year 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and border tension, all direct flights between India and China were stopped. The resumption of these flights started after almost six years in October, 2025. IndiGo starts Kolkata-Guangzhou route, China Eastern Airlines starts Shanghai-Delhi flights and Air India starts Delhi-Shanghai flights from February 2026.

Resumption of some flights started in October 2025

Now Air China’s Beijing-Delhi flights will further strengthen this process. Earlier also Air China used to fly to Delhi and Mumbai, but the pandemic and stress had stopped everything. This step shows a positive change in the diplomacy of both the countries.

Trade and tourism will get a direct boost

This resumption of flights will give a direct boost to trade and tourism. Trade exchange between the two countries will be easier, traders will be able to travel quickly. Tourists will be able to see the historical sites of Beijing and the cultural heritage of Delhi without transit. This will increase mutual understanding among people and help in building trust. From an economic point of view, it will prove beneficial for both the economies as employment and revenue from tourism and trade will increase. Cooperation on platforms like SCO and BRICS will be further strengthened, which is necessary for regional development.

It is understood that this is a positive step towards improving relations between India and China. Better connectivity is necessary to increase cooperation on forums like BRICS and SCO. Both countries are the two most populous nations in the world and good relations between them are essential for regional stability. It is expected that more routes will open in the future and flights will increase. However, it is necessary to continue dialogue on border issues. This resumption reflects maturity in the diplomacy of both the countries and will lay the foundation for a strong partnership in the future.
