Good news for central employees: Big update on 8th Pay Commission
New Delhi. Central employees and pensioners have been eagerly waiting for the formation of the 8th Pay Commission and its recommendations for a long time. Now an important update has come out in this direction. In response to a question asked in the Rajya Sabha, the government informed that the 8th Pay Commission has already been formally constituted, and its notification was issued on 3 November 2025.
Commission responsibilities and timeline
Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said that the commission will review the salary, allowances and pension conditions of employees and pensioners. The commission has been given time to submit its report to the government in 18 months, which means that the report of the commission will be presented by the year 2027. The government will take further action only after the recommendations come.
Financial impact still unclear
MPs also raised the question as to how much additional burden will be placed on the government budget if the commission’s recommendations are implemented. On this, the Finance Ministry clarified that until the Commission presents its report and gets its approval, it is not possible to assess the actual financial impact.
Employees’ demands and strike
Meanwhile, the Central Employees Organization CCGEW has announced a one-day strike across the country on 12 February 2026. Major demands of the organization include: 20% interim relief, adding 50% dearness allowance to the basic pay, replacing NPS and implementing the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). The employee organization says that if their demands are not heeded, they will take to the streets and raise their voice for their rights.
